DOJ Wastes Resources Suing South Carolina Immigration Law

Washington, D.C. – The Justice Department today filed a lawsuit against South Carolina over a recently-passed state law seeking to help enforce immigration laws. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) issued the statement below criticizing the administration’s decision.

Chairman Smith: “The Obama administration continues to waste time and resources suing states for enforcing immigration laws rather than focusing on their duty to carry out all of our laws. This administration deliberately refuses to enforce all immigration laws and is giving amnesty to illegal immigrants through inaction.   Administration officials continue to put illegal immigrants ahead of the interests of American taxpayers and unemployed Americans who need the jobs held by illegal workers.

“President Obama and his administration are on the wrong side of the American people.  According to a recent poll, two-thirds of the American people want to see immigration laws enforced.  And while 14 million Americans are unemployed, seven million illegal immigrants work in the U.S.  We could open up millions of jobs for unemployed Americans by simply enforcing immigration laws.  Whose side is the President on?”
