The Texas attorney general is still waiting for a response from the White House regarding border violence. Attorney General Greg Abbott says he wants more done.

Abbott says he knows the White House has his letter because it was sent electronically. He sent the letter Wednesday but hasn't heard any response from the White House. Abbott's letter urged the president to take stronger federal action to secure the border.

He highlighted the recent shooting of a sheriff deputy in Hidalgo County. That shooting is linked to the Gulf Cartel. Abbott says the shooting is another example of cartel violence spilling into Texas.

He says he warned the White House a year ago this would happen after bullets crossed into the United Sates and hit city hall in El Paso.

“At that time, I pointed out that we were lucky that the bullets struck a building and not bodies. Warning that if the federal government does not help us the next victim will be American and now my prediction turned out to be true,” says Abbott.

A spokesman for the White House says they have not gotten a letter from the attorney general. He emailed us a fact sheet related to border violence saying "our southwest border is safe and open for business" It added this administration has seized more cash, drugs and weapons compared to the last two and a half years of the Bush administration.
